Snowflakes this big meant extra recess at 9:30am!!

We could not help but bring the kids outside this morning when the snow was coming down so hard! It may have only been for 10 minutes but hopefully it will be something they remember! We ran around, caught snowflakes on our tongues, and took some pictures for you to see and enjoy.

Owl Pellet Dissection:
We had such a fun day Friday! The kids got to use their Scientist brains and dissect owl pellets! Once they dissected them all, they classified all of the bones they found in order to figure out what animal their owl ate, and see what the bones in a skeleton really look like. This was a great transition from Animal Classification to our new unit on The Human Body. Now the kids have a real life experience with the bones they will be learning all about. I am so glad they got the opportunity to do this! Although some of them were unsure about it at first, by the end most of them had their gloves off and were loving finding each bone as they dissected further.
Check out the pictures!

The students have become quite the researchers! Here are some shots of them in action.

Make sure you ask your child what animal they are researching and what they have found out about it!

Learning, by becoming experts!

Yesterday we worked in groups to teach our classmates how we solve 2-step equations. Research shows that kids learn best when they teach each other. The kids did a great job and learned how hard it can be to play the role of a teacher! I think they are all ready for their quiz today after this great activity.

Catch up post!

Below, I am posting all the pictures I need to catch up on! I will put a description above each group of pictures to let you know what they are from.

Halloween! The following pictures are some of the great ones I got from our Halloween Day here at school. The kids had a great time sharing scary stories, eating lots of wonderful treats, and dressing up in their costumes.

The next group of pictures is from STEM day. The kids had the chance to work with Lockheed Martin engineers and create machines, make paper airplanes, and do STEM related activities in our classroom. They loved working on the "lock boxes" that they had to use math to get inside.

On the 15th, the kids FINALLY earned their class party that they have been working so hard towards! They got to play with the school set of robots. They learned how to move them around using an iPad. We are hoping that next time we get to use them, we can learn how to code the program to make them move how we want! It was such a great afternoon for the kids.

I just cannot get over how great all of your children are. We have so much fun in our classroom and it is because they are so well behaved and can handle learning through activities! I am really excited to see what the rest of the school year has in store!

Compost Lesson!

This morning the 6th grade students came into our class and taught us about composting!

We will begin composting during our lunches and the 6th grade students will be taking it outside into the containers! This is a great chance for the students to see the importance of keeping our earth clean! Ask your children what type of things can be composted and what type of things cannot. Here are some pictures from our morning.
